With the upcoming launch of The Market Line at Essex Crossing, the Lower East Side will join the list of hosts to the top marketplaces in the world. Inside will be three unique sites—grocery, gallery, and eatery—with the grocery opening as the first phase early next year. Its launch complements the relocation and expansion of the historic Essex Market, home of New York’s longest running mom-and-pop food vendors. “Every small food business has a great story and a strong personality at its heart. Finding a new home for these personal histories is like receiving an imprimatur, and we are essentially building a new community here composed of these legacies. It is endlessly rewarding,” declares Beth Lieberman, Director of Operations for The Market Line. Following that will be the gallery and eatery installments, each to take up one entire city block. Tapping the vibrant art scene of the Lower East Side, the gallery area will feature maker-spaces, clothing boutiques, and a live music venue for an unparalleled retail and design experience. The eatery will function as a contemporary prepared food market, and a place to grab a bite between shopping or before and after work.
